Ascendant (rising) or Sun sign: which is more important and how to look at it

I read my birth chart based on the Sun, and I have compelling reasons for doing so.

The Case Against the Ascendant Why not the Ascendant? Because it focuses on external events. To me, the external world is secondary; what matters most is my inner self (my Sun sign).

When I look at a chart based on the Ascendant, it might say something like: "Saturn is in your 2nd House—tighten your belt and play it safe." If I follow that advice, I feel an immediate internal dissonance. I become anxious and fearful. I end up betraying my true self, which eventually leads to stress and compromises my mental health.

The Case for the Sun Sign The Sun represents the "Inner I," the core of my personality. If the Ascendant tells me to "stay small," I refuse. I will simply find another path—one that I actually enjoy because it aligns with my internal psychology. I shouldn't have to force myself to feel miserable.

The Sun as the Point of Reference When I use my Sun sign as the 1st House, the entire picture changes. Everything falls into place: how I like to handle business, how I prefer to earn money, and how I navigate life.

By using this method, my inner world remains in harmony. It doesn't matter what is happening externally—crises or otherwise—because I am in agreement with myself. I still track planetary transits, but I always interpret them through the lens of my Sun.

Astrologers and others might be shocked by this approach, but I choose psychological and mental health over bitterness and conforming to the Ascendant.

I’m not writing this to convince anyone. I’m writing this for myself, as a constant reminder to prioritize my individuality and my well-being.

So that I follow "I want" and not "I have to." Incidentally, "I want" and "I have to" can't be separated; they need to be friends. But that's another topic.
